The Association was formed in 1980 on the invitation of the Wetherby & District Cricket League following the completion of the first Coaches Award Course in the area in 1979. At the first meeting held at Bardsey Cricket Club, nine Coaches were present. Since 1978 the Wetherby Branch has trained over 200 cricket coaches.
Improve your coaching skills by taking one of the official ECBCA courses offered in our area. If you are already a qualified coach please encourage others at your club to go on one, or more, of the basic coaching courses that we will be running in the near future.
Over the summer we will be hosting a “Taster Session” of 2 hours duration, aimed at parents and cricketers giving them an insight into coaching so that they are equipped to provide assistance to the qualified coach and to show people the opportunities available by taking the ECB CA Coaching courses. We also run ECB CA Level 1 courses of 12 hours duration which are the stepping stone to the Level 2 “Coach Award” qualification which has some 10 sessions of 3 hours each – generally covered as 5 Sunday sessions. For the Level 1 and Level 2 courses you must also undertake First Aid and Child Protection courses as well having a valid ECB recorded Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
If you intend to work with young cricketers, it is essential that you, they, or your club has the relevant insurance cover for that activity. In addition it is now mandatory for clubs to run an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check on any person coaching or supervising young cricketers on behalf of that club.
If you or any of your colleagues at your club are interested in attending any courses or just want to discuss their content and suitability, please do hesitate to contact any of the officers of the Wetherby Association of Cricket Coaches.
